From August 7 – 9, 2017, with the beautiful Rocky Mountains as a backdrop, the conference offered the unique opportunity to learn how industry leaders are adopting and deploying new CableLabs technologies.
Innovation Takes Center Stage
After welcoming words from Kym McNicholas and Phil McKinney, we had the opportunity to listen to keynote Noah Scalin in “The Art of Innovation Unleashing your Personal Creativity”. He delivered his vision with passion and commitment, and the whole hall was immersed with his words.
After a coffee break, the Innovation Showcase took the stage. The Innovation Showcase presented live demos from the most exciting and innovative products and technologies today. Developers delivered compact and persuasive presentations highlighting cutting-edge technologies, such as blockchain for digital wallets, AI for cyber security, smart home automation, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi optimization, and much more.
In the popular PitchOff, two companies went head-to-head: Nikola Labs and Capriza. It was very close, but finally, the crowd decided: Capriza won the Innovation Showcase as the most innovative new tech. Congrats!
Turning Days into Minutes at Our Demo Table
During day 2, we were delighted to welcome many executives to our demo table interested in learning more about our comprehensive automation solution, Symphonica Service Activator.
They watched our team install a complex Direct Internet Access (DIA) service over GPON in just a few minutes. And we’re talking from entering a service order in the CRM to confirming service activation. By using Intraway’s solutions – Symphonica Service Activator, and TWizard, our field technician application for ONT installations – operators can shave days off their installation process, saying goodbye to swivel chair provisioning, installation errors, and new customers calling in wondering when their service will be installed.
“We were very excited to share with cable operators how to orchestrate complex services, such as DIA, over GPON in minutes at the CableLabs Summer Conference. The enthusiasm for our automated fulfillment and assurance solutions from the members was evident as they look to Intraway for help to scale up launches of their residential and commercial services efficiently, accurately, and with great simplicity.”
— Rob Solon, Intraways Account Director – North America.

After a networking break, we headed to the Concurrent Session 2, where Jennifer Andreoli-Fang, Distinguished Technologist at CableLabs, and Farooq Khan, CEO at PHAZR Inc., exchanged insightful views on access networks and growing a better mobile experience.
This action-packed day ended listening to keynote speaker Balan Nair, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology and Innovation Officer for Liberty Global. In his pleasant conversation with Kym McNicholas, Mr. Nair expressed the importance of taking risks and living the entrepreneurial spirit.
CableLabs Summer Conference was not just sessions and demos. We also had the opportunity to exchange different ideas with CableLabs members, vendors, startups, and speakers. These exchanges can shape the future direction of cable technology and innovations, and we were honored to be an active participant.
As Kym McNicholas said during the conference closing: “This industry is the one that lays the groundwork for our near future, a better place.” So true! See you all next year!
